Privacy Policy
Phone Escape
This policy is written to match what the app actually does, and it is updated before a version ships rather than after. The game itself asks you for nothing; the one thing that does leave your device is anonymous usage and crash data, described in full below.
In short
- No accounts, no login, no name, email or phone number
- No adverts and no in-app purchases
- We ask you for no personal information, ever
- Google Firebase collects anonymous usage and crash data — section 3
- Your game progress is saved on your phone and never leaves it
1. What we ask you for
Nothing. There is no account, no sign-up and no profile. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number or date of birth, and the app cannot read your contacts, photographs, files, camera, microphone or location.
We operate no servers of our own and hold no database about you. The only data that leaves your device goes to Google Firebase, and it is described in section 3.
2. What is stored on your device
Your progress is saved locally using Android’s standard app storage. It never leaves the device and is not visible to us. It consists of:
- Which cases you have completed, and your best time for each
- Your daily streak — a count, and the day of your last completed Daily Mystery
- Your case file — lines of evidence you have uncovered, which later cases refer to
- Your sound preference
None of it identifies you.
3. Analytics and crash reporting
Phone Escape uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. They exist so we can see that the game is being played and fix it when it breaks — not to identify you. Google processes this data; their handling is covered by the Firebase privacy documentation and the Google Privacy Policy.
Analytics records a randomly generated app-instance identifier, your device model, operating system and app version, your approximate region (derived from the IP address, which is not retained), and events such as the app being opened. It does not record anything you type or the contents of any case.
Crashlytics is only used when something goes wrong. It records the technical details of the failure — the error, the stack trace, and the state of the device at that moment, such as model, OS version and available memory — along with a random installation identifier.
Neither of them can see your name, your contacts, your photographs or any other app on your phone.
The app therefore requests the Android permissions
INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE so this data can be sent,
WAKE_LOCK and the Play install-referrer permission, which the Firebase libraries
add themselves, and the advertising ID permission described in section 4.
4. The advertising ID
Firebase Analytics requests Android’s advertising ID by default, so the app declares that permission. We do not show adverts, we run no ad network, and we do not use the advertising ID to build a profile of you or to target anything at you.
You can reset or delete it at any time from Settings → Privacy → Ads on your phone, which is outside this app and applies to every app on the device.
5. Deleting your data
Open Settings from the top right of the main screen and choose Delete saved data. That erases every completion, best time, your streak and your case file from the device immediately.
Uninstalling the app removes all of that, and stops any further analytics or crash data being sent. To have data already sent to Firebase deleted, email us at the address in section 9 with the approximate date and device model and we will request its removal.
6. Children
Phone Escape is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone of any age — the analytics described above are anonymous and are not used to identify individuals. If you believe a child’s personal information has reached us somehow, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
You have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and India’s DPDP Act to access, correct, export or erase personal data held about you. We hold no personal database of our own; your game progress lives on your device and erasing it is a button inside the game, and for the anonymous analytics held by Firebase we will action a deletion request on your behalf — see section 5.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
8. Changes to this policy
If a future version collects anything more — adverts or online leaderboards, for instance — this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described plainly here rather than buried. This page was last changed to add sections 3 and 4 when analytics and crash reporting were introduced.
9. Contact
Questions about this policy can go to skyhopper089@gmail.com, which is also the address to use for a data deletion request.
